Bruce Schneier, the computer security equivalent of Chuck Norris, has some excellent points to make about anti-virus software. Executive summary: anti-virus is not enough to keep you safe online (you still have to be careful), but it's free (if you use AVG or Avast's free version) and easy, and protects against a lot of bad stuff, so you have no excuse for not having it.
